Lap-Held Infant Travel Requirements
Infants under 2 years old must provide proof of age, ideally in the form of a birth certificate. Children under 2 years old are considered infants and can travel as lap-held infants with an adult (18 years or older) without purchasing a separate seat.
Please note that we require single passenger responsibility. No passenger can be responsible for more than one infant, whether the infant is on their lap or has their own seat.
Are Lap-Held Infants Free of Charge?
- Domestic Flights Within Canada: Lap infants are free of charge
- International/USA Flights: Lap infants are charged an infant fare, calculated as 20% of the adult's base fare.
Purchasing a Separate Seat for an Infant
If you prefer a separate seat for your infant, you can purchase a seat at the regular fare.
Please book your infant as a lap-held infant and then contact our contact centre through our official channels to purchase a separate seat for your infant.
For infants in their own seats, they must be secured in an approved restraint device. Infants secured in a car seat must be seated next to their parent or guardian (18 years or older). Note that infants cannot occupy certain seats on the aircraft.
Special Baggage Allowance for Infants
Parents travelling with infants can bring one diaper bag (size and weight equivalent to a personal item) free of charge, in addition to their regular free personal item.
You can also check two complementary items, such as a stroller, car seat, or playpen.
